In the map to the left, it shows what countries have higher rate of carbon dioxide that is emmited. The highest, going in order, are United States, Canada, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. However, according to USA today, scientists have been unable to account for a substantial amount of the Earth's carbon. In their article, "Is Carbon Dioxide the Key to Global Warming?", it discusses how there are rangelands and grass fields that are being scientfically observed to hopefully uncover the missing amount of carbon that is being detected. Scientists use an instrument called the Bowen ratio-energy balance unit to measure the carbon dioxide at two different levels. This can tell them how much CO2 is being released from the plants and how much CO2 is being drawn into the plants.
The scientists know for a fact that the increase in CO2 is caused by the amount of fossil fuels that are burned. However, they cannot be certain that the cause of global warming is due to the increase amount of CO2.
