Swirly Lightbulbs

This light bulb.... is good! The fluorescent light bulb pays for itself after about 6 months of use. According to energy star, it saves $30, uses 75% less energy, and lasts 10 times longer than the bad lightbulb (incandescent). How are these swirly lightbulbs so much better? Basically because of the science of how it produces its light. The components consist of electrons, mercury, argon, and ultraviolet photons. To get technica,l the electrons from each end of the light bulb interact with the mercury atoms floating around in the swirlys. The mercury atoms get excited that these electrons are interacting with them, but when these atoms become tired they release units of light called photons. These photons run into the phosphor coating of the swirlys and then emits the light.

By this process, it produces less heat than the incandescent light bulb. This is why you can go out and buy a 15-watt fluorescent light bulb with the same amount of light produced by a 60 watt incandescent light bulb.

There is one bad thing about this swirly light bulb; it contains mercury. If people do not dispose of these lightbulbs correctly it can do very bad damage to the environment because mercury is highly toxic. How to correctly dispose of the fluorescent lightbulb: TAKE THEM TO THE HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF AREA. It is free of charge=).

Bad Lightbulbs

This light bulb.....is bad! Sure they may seem to be the cheapest, but how many times do you need to go buy them? They burn out much more frequently than other lightbulbs. You end up paying more for less light because these lightbulbs produce more 3 times more heat than light. Congratulations you bought yourself a space heater, not a lightbulb. Well for Alaska it would be nice because then you will save on your heat. However, you will be paying alot more for lighting and you will be doing damage to your environment. So I guess it is up to the individual; save on your heating or help save your environment. Like I said in my previous blog, there are always substitutes, and they are usually better.

Instead of Energy Drinks...

SUBSTITUTE YOUR ENERGY DRINKS.

People want energy drinks because they feel tired or they want to be extra awake and aware. Eat healthier and you will find that you won't be craving your afternoon pick me up in that rockstar or redbull.

Replace the energy drink with a sports drink such as gatorade to give your body electrolytes. Water will do the same thing gatorade does, however, not as quickly and not as tasty.

Main point: There are always substitutes that might even be better for you.

what is in YOUR energy drink

I'm sure everyone has had at least one energy drink in their life. Most people have one every day or almost everyday. Kind of like cigarettes, we know they are bad but we are going to consume them anyway because it feels awesome. Until you get lung cancer or in the case of the Energy Drink, you develop high blood pressure or possibly (very rarely) die from an overdose of caffeine. Also the vitamin B6 (taurine) is a very popular substance in many foods and drinks. There is an abundance amount of B6 in energy drinks that can become toxic to our bodies and could result in death. Why do people still consume these after knowing the risks?
